Heavy duty, great design, March 24, 2011

I purchased the 6×8 version of this greenhouse at Lowe’s after accidentally stumbling upon it and reading the great reviews in this site. This thing is SOLID- has held it’s own in a few early Spring storms in northern New England. It took my husband and I about 30 minutes to put together. I agree with other who said just Ignore the pre-drilled holes and go with your instincts and it goes together quickly and securely. The thing I like most, in addition to the headroom and the sturdy design, are the multiple vented windows…I killed a few seedlings last year with a poorly vented greenhouse…never again. If you are considering one if the slightly cheaper green plastic models with no ventilation, seriously consider spending a few more dollars for this one.

This review is from: Spring Gardener Gable Greenhouse, 6 Feet X 8 Feet X 7 Feet (Lawn & Patio)

We live in West Texas. We do get several days in the winter of zero degree weather and several weeks of freezing temperatures. Last year we lost most of our plants to an abnormally cold winter. We were faced with putting up plastic to section off part of our patio or buy a small greenhouse. We bought this one. Having just been through our first freeze, I can tell you this thing works. The outside temperature overnight and when I checked was 29 degrees. Inside the greenhouse the temperature was 42. It was easy to assemble if you take your time and follow the instructions. We folded the flaps at the bottom under and used bricks to help hold it down. The unit is next to our house which helps protect it somewhat from the wind, but last night we had 30 mph and it did not go anywhere. here are some answers I could not find in my research. There are four, large, velcro rollup windows with screening underneath them. Two are on each side. There is a very large, zippered rollup door on each end. I anticipate the zippers to be the weakest part of the construction over time, so I recommend being careful and slow when opening or closing the zippers. It stands on six posts (legs) which have a flange at the bottom for bolting to something or to help tie it down on ground. Each side’s legs are connected, but there are no cross ties at the bottom. It uses maybe 30 elastic (bungie cord) straps to tension the entire cover top to bottom. They work well once you figure out how to use them. The tubular steel frame is powder coated paint for durability. here’s one last tip. I was looking for some supplemental heat for the colder days. Some suggested a light bulb. Good idea, but I didn’t want a lighted lawn ornament. Space heaters were suggested, but I didn’t like the idea of very hot sources in a plastic house. I did find a product designed for reptile cages called Repti-Heat-Cable. It is a plastic cord, 23 feet long that puts out 50 watts. Since that is spread across the cable length, no spot gets very hot, so I don’t need to worry about burning the plants. It is designed to be running for long periods of time in a lizard tank. I draped the cables around the greenhouse and it seems to work fine.

we have probably had 3 different portable green houses prior to this one. The quality of this one far exceeds the others. We normally take them down when warm weather hits but this one is so nice and unlike the others it opens all the way at both ends, we may leave it up. Well worth the price

When I purchased this hot house I did’nt think it would last very long. Now it’s been up since March and had 60+mph winds hit it and it’s still standing in good shape. I’ve very happy with that and the way plants grow very quickly in it. Good buy

Love my new greenhouse!, December 30, 2011

Have to say that I am extremely happy with this item. It arrived within about 4 days of ordering it, in a surprisingly small box. Each piece of the frame was well marked, which coincided with the instructions. I put it together myelf in about an hour. The only thing I needed help with was moving the greenhouse into final position. Once together, the greenhouse is very sturdy & holds all my outdoor plants, with room to spare.
The only challenge I had was figuring out how to use the ratchets to secure the panels. I finally did, I think, but hope I can get them to loosen up in the spring for dismantling.
All in all, I would give this a 2 thumbs up for sure and look forward to many years of use.

I bought this greenhouse after looking at a friends… It’s a pretty sturdy greenhouse for the money. I put some landscaping edging bricks around the base to help hold down the flaps to keep air out and help hold it down in case of bad weather. Overall for 234.00 bucks shipped.. You can’t beat it…. I would recommend this greenhouse for a beginning gardner or someone who wants to save ferns or other plants for the winter.
