How do I get rid of Mold in my mini green house?

Question by oreobabylove: How do I get rid of Mold in my mini green house?
I have created a very small artificially lit green house in my closet. It is made with miracle grow moisture control soil and a florescent plant light fixture. This is my first time trying something like this. I was amazed that my tomato seedlings are sprouting about an inch high after just two weeks. So far nothing on the onion, pepper, cilantro or parsley seeds, But I am also seeing a quickly spreading white mold of some sort that looks kind of like soft fur. Is this going to affect the edibility of my plants? How do I get rid of it? Please help!

Mold can be tricky to get rid of. You can use a heavily diluted bleach spray around the plants. If you have a little extra cash head down to your local garden supply store as they will have commercial products for mold.

If it is really windy……….no, I wouldn’t do it unless you have it on the ground somewhere and up against something so that it doesn’t tip over.

mini green house and cold weather?

Question by hollytu514: mini green house and cold weather?
I have a little portable green house (on wheels). And the weather is really fluxuating, I have been bringing it in at night into the garage so it does not get too cold. but at what temp at night do you think I could leave it outside and the plants not be damaged. tonight it will be 50 overnight.

Hi:
It sounds like you are doing the right thing with bringing your mini greenhouse in at night. It will depend on what plant specimens you have if they could be damaged. If you have little seedlings or plugs, they need to be protected. If you have some established plants in pots, as long as they are protected from the actual outside elements, they should be fine.

I germinated thousands of seeds in a greenhouse. The greenhouse had heat, and I kept it around 68 degrees throughout the winter and cooler months.

In spring, I usually recommend to my clients to start bringing their plants outdoors during the day, and if the night time temperature is cooler, bring them back in.

It will all depend on what type of plant specimens you have in your greenhouse. Vegetables, flowers and especially herbs if real young, need warmth to continue their root establishment.

I hope this has helped some. Your garage is a good place to store your greenhouse when the temperatures are cooler. When in doubt, always bring them in to protect them.
