Question by : Help i have a green house and have been trying to grow several trees from seeds?
my green house tipped over and spilled all of my plants and i found a sprout amongst the dirt that i believe to be an olive sprout, it hadn’t broken the surface though so it had no colour so i picked it up and planted it again with the two leaves all sprouts have above the surface and now the leaves have started turning brown is there anyway to save this sprout? its the only olive sprout that iv found

You could try cutting it back, or maybe just cut the leaves off, to let the plant have it’s best chance

Mowing Grass after planting grass seeds ? and filling weed holes with grass seeds / soil?

Question by ryu_hindustani: Mowing Grass after planting grass seeds ? and filling weed holes with grass seeds / soil?
So I bought a house and I love gardening !! 🙂 but I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m a newbie. I hired a lawn care company to help me with my lawn they offer some weed pulling and 5 fertilizer visits (1 per month) and sarritor (weed control) whoever owned the house before didn’t love their lawn to much but it’s in okay condition.

I invest an hour everyday pulling weeds and filling the holes with soil and grass seeds. I have gotten aeration done this year and I did over seeding myself. MY concerns are I want a full thick green lawn with no weeds and no bald patches. I want the grass to look thick and rich.

However when I pull a weed out I quickly put some high quality soil in the hole and add grass seeds and then cover it lightly with soil again. I wait 10 days before I mow the lawn because it does need mowing, there’s no avoid that. But when I check the holes that the weeds were there’s only specs of baby grass growing. Is it safe to mow over them? I can’t mow around them because I have like 50 holes in my lawn waiting for grass to grow in from weed pulling.

I don’t think the blade will touch them and then the grass seeds that haven’t even had a chance to germinate as yet I feel are getting blown away by the lawn mower.

I feel like I’m going in circles and ending up with a lawn full of holes from extracted weed pullings.

I need a thick full GREEN lawn Please what am I doing wrong? I heard if I keep taking out the weeds and filling it with soil and planting grass seeds that eventually the lawn will become so thick and rich that weeds won’t be able to find a spot to grow in and if it does I’ll only get a couple weeds.

I’m guessing that the mower will just suck up the new stuff. You don’t want to use a different soil for the holes than the soil that is in the rest of your lawn. It will never water evenly. Try seeding on the regular soil and maybe cover the seeds with a topper.
Since you really want to love your lawn, connect with your local Master Gardeners or university extension service. We have a great lawn site here in California, but I wouldn’t want to steer you in the wrong direction since a lot depends on your climate.
You’re on the right track with the healthy grass crowding out the weeds.

Can I start seeds outside in a little plastic tarp green house?

Question by shampoomaker: Can I start seeds outside in a little plastic tarp green house?
I want to start some pepper plant seeds today. I normally start my seeds indoors in plastic trays under grow lights. I live in northern Florida and the weather has been in the 60’s-upper 70’s the last week and was wondering if I could start seeds outside? I’d like to build a little tent using opaque plastic drop clothes and put the trays in there where they would get plenty of sunshine during the day. Will this work and start the seeds correctly?

That would probably work but keep in mind parts of north Florida will have temperatures in the mid-to-upper 30’s for the next few nights. I’m in NW Florida and we are expected to go to 34 degrees tonight, 36 tomorrow night and 37 or 38 on Thursday night. Since the seeds will not sprout between now and then you should be fine. I have not started my peppers or eggplants yet but will do so in the next few days.

Good luck and enjoy!
