Q&A: going green and building a tiny house?

Question by Mark L: going green and building a tiny house?
I am interested in going as green as possible and building a house similar to the Tumbleweed Tiny Houses. I don’t want to buy their set of plans when I want to make my own design. Are there any good websites, books etc on easy portable architecture? I’m really just interested in the materials I’ll need and what-not, so it doesn’t fall down.

I’ve never done construction by my grandfather was a master woodworker and architect, any I am pretty good at building things, it’s in my blood.

So, where do I start?

Never heard of those houses, but start by going to Lowes or Home Depot and looking at their small sheds. I’ve thought many times how easy it would be to transform one into a house.

Building a green house, what kind of cover do I use?

Question by : Building a green house, what kind of cover do I use?
My brother and I are building a greenhouse to expand my son’s gardening project. He suggested using Visqueen. I was wondering if thats a good idea or should I use something else? We live in the Arctic, if that’s a determining factor. Summers can go from -10 to 60 above Fahrenheit.

Visqueen is ok as long as you get the greenhouse film. Plastic is not as good at heat retention as a solid material like polycarbonate but it is much cheaper and easier to install. Be sure you make it air tight and have vents to let out excess heat when you need to. I know in my greenhouse it can be 80F when it’s -2 outside as long as the sun is shining. With plastic that is easy to do because you can just open the entrance. Use clothes pins to secure it.

Then you have to have a source of heat for when it’s really cold and the sun’s not shining or at night. There are some good ideas for this on line if you want to look them up.

If you haven’t started building you might also look into hoop houses on line too

Is building a small green house and growing / selling potted plants to local nurseries a lucrative business?

Question by yeildsign: Is building a small green house and growing / selling potted plants to local nurseries a lucrative business?
I have worked at a garden center for 5 years during which I have learned a lot about plants and the inner workings of the nursery business. Recently I have been considering building a small green house and selling plants locally. If I wanted to make this worth my while… How big does the nursery need to be? About how many plants do I need to grow? And what types of plants have good mark-up value and are fairly easy to grow? Any and all advice welcome! Thanks for your help!

The Sims 2 – Green House Building Process

Hey everyone! This video features the building process of the house I created specially for my earlier movie, ‘A Sims2 Christmas’. I named it ‘Green House’ because I had the environment in mind. Sure you can cringe and go ‘Oh please…’ but I tried to make this house as environmentally friendly as possible…were it real that is. It features 3 bedrooms, a private ensuite, seperated toilet, shower and bathroom sinks, a Formal lounge, open living room and kitchen with counter-top dining, outdoor patio, pool, admirable landscaping and a single garage. Solar pannel are situated on the roof. These help your Sims save a little money by taking full advantage of their computer generated sun shine 😀 The music used for this video is from the SimCity 4 Rush Hour Expanion pack.. Here is the direct link to this lot on thesims2.com… thesims2.ea.com Hope you enjoy the video. Feedback is most welcome 🙂 Happy Simming everyone! TheSimMan…

Our planet is home to millions of species of animal and plants with their own habitat, and each plays a unique role in the perfect design of nature. Unfortunately many species of plants and animals are victim of uncontrolled human development. Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilization all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threath of extinction. Besides the threath posed by human development, one of the goals of the United Nations, published years ago in official reports, was to wipe out the cannabis plant from the face of the earth by the year 2010. In reality this is far from being achieved, because man keeps using the cannabis plant for religious, medicinal and recreational purposes no matter what the law says. Most cultures cannot comprehend how a plant can be made illegal. In most people’s perception, plants and animals stand above a status of legality or illegality, they just exist in a higher design of nature that goes beyond human laws and regulations. Nevertheless most governments of cannabis-producing countries are implementing drastic measures to destroy crops. Dangerous chemicals are sprayed over fields and over the farmers themselves in most of the third world countries, and the poorest people of the planet are the ones paying the highest price for cultivating a plant that does not kill. But in the economy of scale, where demand dictates supply, the poorest people of the planet

I am planning on building a Green House for my Tortoises.?

Question by buddy072: I am planning on building a Green House for my Tortoises.?
I am going to have a tropical side of the green house for my red-foots. If it is large enough, can i put some tropical birds in it with my only 2 red-foots,( they are small) And what kind of birds would you suggest?

It will have vegitation, plants, small trees and shrubs.
I will probley be in there every day, and will make sure to keep the “poop” out. What about parakeets? I know they come from austriala, but would they do well??

Best answer:

Answer by Michael
something smaller like conures as large birds will destroy all tour foliage…LOL… and put up a catch tray as the poop will fall to the ground where your red-foots can eat it and birds carry bacteria and parisites that can transfer easily to reptiles
